The Wiganist has a distinct philosophy when it comes to government and we argue and campaign for the following principles:
– The council must balance the budget as taxing us to pay debt interest for zero public services is completely unacceptable. No government has a right to burden future generations with debt.
– All council tax rises must gain the consent of the people by a local referendum of Wigan borough residents.
– Cutting business rates for small businesses to ease the burden on our local entrepreneurs, encourage employment, and spur expansion.
– Wigan Council should carry outs its essential functions as per the law, and that only. No vanity projects paid for by the taxpayer.
– We advocate for both increased focus and resources to tackle organised crime on our high streets.
– We oppose candidates for public office that seek to further their own self-interest at the expense of the taxpayer.
– We advance all of the above positions in a non-partisan way, supportive of parties and candidates that embrace our ideas.
